The humble pin cushion is the must have for any sewing person. ( I don't call us sewers to avoid confusion with another less fragrant life essential of that name )
Every picking up of a pin is charged with the intent of the job in hand and every stabbing back into the cushion, the brief moment of satisfaction at stitching just completed.
All to say the pin cushion is an important landing spot. It's a sewing hands outer eye. As such it becomes a trusty friend and thus is worthy of being beautiful.
I've made a few here, 1 from vintage cotton French boucle , 2 from Coco Chanel's fave woollen fabric Mysore - one blue/red on black/red
All are stuffed with pure Sussex wool, and the printed ones backed with dark denim.
All funky, all useful, all hand made, all there to back you up as you sew. Greatest gift !
